Routine

I think we're actually beginning to settle in.  I feel the whisperings of "home" as I look around me.  No, I'm not there yet, but I'm getting closer.  Obviously it will help to have our shipment arrive, but that's nowhere on the horizon as of yet.  Having my very own piano helps a lot!  We have a car in the works, almost for sure this time; we're just waiting for our loan to come through.  Once we get that life gets much simpler.  Routine will really kick in then because I don't have to deal with taxis anymore.  Gabey and I will go to the club more, explore for more resources, be able to purchase more house needs, like rugs, an ironing board, etc.

Right now our routine is pretty simple.  At 7 a.m. we leave to take Zack to school by taxi.  On Tuesdays and Thursdays Gabey can choose to stay home with Fitri, which he usually does.  Right now we're picking Zack up at 2 p.m. as well, but soon he'll start taking the bus home.  This will minimize Gabey's and my time in the car and allow Zack that bus ride he's been begging for.  I won't allow morning bus rides because he would have to leave home at 6:30 a.m.!
Tuesdays are water days.  Like a 1950s milk delivery I leave our empty bottles on the front porch and Aqua replaces them with full bottles.  Pretty nifty!

Thursdays are grocery days.  I finally settled on a favorite grocery store.  It's called Grand Lucky and has lots of imported items as well as local.  It also has some home furnishings.  Think a very small version of Costco.  Gabriel loves the fish swimming around in big tanks and the piles of clams, octopi, and prawns.  They also have the best prices for meat I've found so far.

Some days after we drop off Zack at school Gabriel and I go to the American Club.  He plays in the supervised indoor playground while I hit the gym then we go swimming.  Tough life.

John and I have resumed our Saturday date days now that Fitri is here.  Last Saturday we had a game day with coworkers.

Rainy season appears to be in full swing.  Last night we had a torrential downpour that flooded this room:

I called GSO immediately the next day because my new piano is in the very next room!  Fortunately each part of the room moves up an inch, so the little room with my piano was safe.  GSO came within a couple hours.  I told them that the water drainage from the roof seemed to be gathering at the doorstep and flooding in under the door.  So they came up with this ghetto-fabulous solution:

The pictures are sideways and I can't figure out how to fix it.  Basically they attached this PVC pipe to the roof so now the water gushes through the pipe off the doorway instead of into the house.

It seems to work.  We had another downpour tonight and no flooding.  Like I said, ghetto-fabulous. I love it!

New home construction always has a few snafus. Glad you are beginning to settle in after your nomadic summer. Tap water not safe?
